GREAT NEWS! We have arranged with a contractor to resurface our courts so we will have a proper tennis court surface, painted and smooth. The work will take place in June and our courts will be unavailable for 1 to 2 weeks while the work is taking place. It will be worth it!
Our AGM (Annual General Meeting) will be virtual this year. As a not-for-profit organization, we are required to have an AGM every year. The main purpose is to review the operations of the club and to elect the Board of Directors. The meeting will be held on Thurs Mar 14 at 7pm. If you would like to attend, RSVP here and we will send you a link to join the meeting.
Summer camps have arrived for Newtonbrook! We have arranged with TAC Sports to use our courts to support their summer camp based out of Lillian public school from July 8 to Aug 2. Their use of the courts will be limited to one court, only on weekdays during non-prime time. Our club will benefit from additional members as every child that registers for the camp will need to take out a junior tennis membership. For more information visit NTC Summer Camps
We have verified with Nima, our head coach, that Sina, Philipp, and Reza will be returning to deliver high quality affordable group lessons for our members. We plan to have lesson registration available on our website shortly.
Last year we conducted 2 very popular in-house tournaments. We plan to continue offering these friendly competitions.
Opening Day will be Saturday May 4 at 11am. You will have a chance to meet our coaches and someone from TAC Sports that can answer any questions you have about their summer camp program. As usual, we will have free pizza and soft drinks available for everyone. See you there!

Fall Lessons 2023
We are pleased to announce that registration for our Fall Lessons is now open. Our fall group tennis lessons will begin the week of Aug 20. Our 6 week group lessons have proven to be very popular due to the excellence of our coaches and the affordability of our programs. We also limit the number of students for most of our classes to 6. This ensures that students receive personal attention and an increased opportunity to learn new skills.
Are you an adult who has always wanted to learn to play tennis? Our Adult Beginner Lessons are a great way to learn, in a supportive, positive learning environment. Plus you get to meet other members who are at the same level.

Newtonbrook Tennis Club has always supported our local tennis community. As a small not-for-profit organization run by unpaid volunteers, we provide our tennis community with access to group lessons at a heavily discounted rate compared to other tennis clubs. We are not able to provide refunds on missed group lessons. When registering for a group lesson, please ensure that you can attend all sessions.
No refunds or credits will be given for missed classes due to illness, minor injury, or any other schedule conflicts. Missed or unused classes will not roll over to the next session. Coaches and the Board of Directors reserve the right to allow access to a replacement lesson where feasible.
Thank you for your continued support of Newtonbrook Tennis Club.
March 24, 2023
We are pleased to announce that Newtonbrook Tennis Club will be opening on Saturday May 6, 2023. As usual we will be serving free pizzas and soft drinks. Watch your email for more details.
Our website www.newtonbrooktennis.com has been updated and is now ready for you to register for membership and spring group lessons.
We have frozen our membership fees at last year's rates.
Group lesson fees have increased moderately, but are still the best value anywhere.
All our instructors from last year will be returning, Sina, Arshia and Phillip will continue to deliver excellent instruction to Newtonbrook members.
Our highly rated Adult Doubles Skills and Strategies course will become a regular fixture on Monday nights.
Friday night is Youth Night at Newtonbrook. For Juniors aged 10-17, we have reserved 2 courts from 6:30pm to 8pm, with one of our instructors facilitating activities. This is a free program, but you must register for it.
We will run this as a pilot project for 4 weeks, and make it permanent if it proves popular.
Remember that you must take out a membership before registering for group lessons or for Youth Night.
Don’t forget to use our Club Calendar link on our home page to view all scheduled lessons and programs during the season.
November 2022
We are now closed for the winter season.
Thank you to all our members for their support during this very successful season.
We are planning to hold our Annual General Meeting in March 2023. Watch your email for more details.
August 10, 2022
Registration for Fall lessons is now available on our website. Our Fall session starts the week of Sept 5 and runs for 5 weeks.
We have a new class on Monday evenings - Doubles skills and strategies. This is a course geared to Intermediate adult and older juniors who would like to improve their skills in doubles tennis. This will be a very active course with lots of drills and situational simulations. Be prepared for a workout!
Our Newtonbrook Tennis Academy for advanced juniors is back to a two day a week course on Wed and Sat. This class is limited to a maximum of 4 students.
Because it is midway through the season, we have reduced our membership fees to half-price.
For those of you who haven't been at our courts recently, we have installed a new ball curtain between courts 2 and 3. Court 3 is where most of our group lessons take place and the curtain helps reduce stray balls disrupting play on other courts.
Our all-star team of instructors, Nima, Sina, Philipp, and Amir will be conducting our courses.
Our group lessons have been very popular so register early to avoid disappointment!

We just installed our new ball curtain between courts 2 and 3. All of our group lessons take place on court 3. So when group lessons are running on court 3, this curtain will prevent balls from spraying onto the other courts. A win-win for everyone!
June 14, 2022
If you have visited our courts recently, you will have noticed 2 new additions at each end of our courts. Say hello to our new umbrellas!
We have installed these to provide you with relief from the sun and heat, especially in the middle of the day.
We ask that you treat these as if they were your own - very gently. Please follow these guidelines:
When opening, turn the crank clockwise all the way. Ensure that no part of the string is exposed. Leaving the string exposed will cause it to fray and make the crank inoperable.
Please close the umbrella when leaving the courts by turning the crank counter-clockwise.
Do not open the umbrellas in stormy or high wind conditions. They will get damaged.
The umbrellas are not moveable. They have been anchored in the concrete.
Turning the crank to raise and lower the umbrella should be the only actions you normally take. Please resist the temptation to tinker with other settings. We have installed these as optimally as possible.
If something is amiss, please let us know newtonbrooktennis@gmail.com

Due to popular demand, we have added 2 more classes on Fridays. At 4:30, we’ve added a Junior 5-6 year old class followed at 5:15 by an Adult beginner class. This is ideal for parents of young children who would also like to take up tennis themselves. (Family membership recommended)

Welcome back to Newtonbrook Tennis!
Our website is now ready to accept memberships and register for lessons.
Our planned opening day is May 7, and we hope to have a social event that day with pizza and soft drinks. Watch your email for more details.
Nima, Reza, and Sina will be returning to the club to deliver excellent tennis instruction. Our group lessons will have no more than 6 students to ensure a high level of personal attention as well as helping to maintain social distancing.
You should be aware that we have instituted new rules around children accessing our courts based on some incidents that occurred last year:
All children under 12 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. (NTC Group lessons excepted)
Courts are to be used for tennis only. (This is already a City of Toronto rule but needs to be emphasized).
No more than 4 players actively playing per court. (NTC Group Lessons excepted)
No excessive noise.
After 9pm - Adults Only (18+). Exception: Children 12yrs + playing with parents (Family membership recommended)
If you have any questions or concerns about these new rules, please contact us via email.
We look forward to seeing all of you on the courts this spring!
Your Board, Giacomo, Shevaun, Ron, and Saeed.

Registration for Fall Lessons
We are pleased to announce that group lessons for the fall are now available for registration.
Our group lessons begin the week of August 30. They will be running for 6 weeks except for our Monday sessions which are only 5 weeks due to holidays. We have lessons for both Adults and Kids.
You will notice the following changes to our fall program:
We now have separate Junior classes for 5–6 year-olds and 7-9 year-olds. This new structure recognizes the vast difference in physical ability between a 5 year-old and a 9 year-old.
We are offering separate Junior 10+ classes for Beginners and Intermediates. This was done to group students with similar skill levels.
We are offering 3 Adult Beginner classes and 3 Adult Intermediate classes. Those of you currently in our beginner classes should consider registering for our intermediate classes. If in doubt, consult with your coach.
The Newtonbrook Tennis Academy (NTA) is back! This intensive program is for our most dedicated and talented 10+ Juniors. Class size is restricted to a maximum of 4.
We hope these changes will lead to more targeted and fulfilling lessons for all our students. Please note that our coaches may suggest transferring students from one class to another based on their assessments.
To help facilitate social distancing and to ensure high quality instruction, classes are limited to a maximum of 6 students. Click on the LESSONS link above to check them out.
President’s Update July 15 2021
Membership
Our membership continues to grow.
While a growing active membership is good news, it presents many challenges as well, as there is increasing demand on our courts especially during prime time. Prime time is defined as 5pm-9pm Mon-Thurs and 5pm-8pm Friday.
During Prime time, only scheduled club group lessons may be conducted on 1 court. If another court becomes available, instructors may use a second court to enhance their lesson, but if members appear and wish to claim a court, the lesson must revert back to 1 court. Private lessons may not be conducted during Prime time.
Prime time does not apply to weekends.
If all courts are busy and a member wishes to play they should place their racquet on the reservation peg board (southwest corner) and claim a court on the next hour or half-hour, provided the current players have played for at least ½ hour.
Private Lessons
All lessons on our courts must be conducted by authorized instructors. At this point our instructors are Nima (lead instructor), Reza and Sina. Members may not arrange private lessons on our courts with any other instructors. This is for insurance and liability reasons. If you wish to arrange private lessons, please contact Nima nima@tennisconnected.com.
During non-Prime Times, our instructors may be conducting private lessons on 1 or 2 courts. During these times, our courts are often empty. Your board has decided that we would rather see our courts busy with members taking lessons rather than sitting empty. To check to see when lessons are scheduled, please check our Club Calendar on our website. There will always be 1 or 2 courts available to members for open play.
Gate Security
As most of you know, we have just installed a new robust combination gate lock for our courts that provides security for our members and club assets as well as allowing easy egress. Members I’ve spoken to have been very positive about this change.
It is vitally important that members do not share the combination with non-members. Should we find that non-members are accessing our courts because of a compromised combination, we will be forced to change the combination to everyone’s inconvenience. Don’t let this happen by doing your part to keep the combination secure.
During public hours (Sat Sun Holidays 12pm-3pm) the gate will be secured open to allow public access
Fall Group Lessons
Many of you have been inquiring about lessons in the fall. We are planning a complete slate of lessons this fall for Adults and Juniors. Because of the season these will necessarily be only 4 or 5 weekly lessons. They will be priced accordingly. An Email will be sent out to all members once these lessons are open for registration (Early August).
Regards,
Giacomo
June 16, 2021
Our group lessons are a big hit. Most of our classes are full or close to full. All classes begin next week (June 21). Students, please bring a copy of your registration to the first lesson.
June 9, 2021
We are thrilled to announce that group lessons are now available for registration.
Our group lessons begin the week of June 21. They will be running for 8 weeks (instead of our normal 6 weeks). We have lessons for both Adults and Kids. To help facilitate social distancing, classes are limited to a maximum of 6 students. Click on the LESSONS link above to check them out.
COVID-19 Update
Dear members and former members,
Good News!
The provincial order keeping our courts closed was lifted as of Sat May 22. Our courts will be open to the public from May 22 to May 30.
Then as of May 31, Newtonbrook Tennis Club will be officially open. At this point you will need to be a member to access the courts (except for public hours on Sat and Sun). A combination lock will be installed and only members will be given the combination.
If you wish to play tennis during this summer, please join the club.
https://www.newtonbrooktennis.com/membership
At this point, we are unclear when we will be able to run group lessons, but we hope to resume them during the summer. Stay tuned for more news....
Happy Hitting!

Previous announcements…..
Welcome to Newtonbrook for another exciting season of tennis.
Our official opening day this year is Saturday May 1. As I’m sure all of you can appreciate, we will not be running our usual opening day festivities due to the global pandemic.
Our head instructor, Nima Naderi, ably assisted by Reza Jovaini, is returning to the club to continue delivering exceptional group lessons for Juniors and Adults. Due to the pandemic, we have limited our group lessons to a maximum of 4 students. We have added more sessions and adjusted our rates accordingly. I think you’ll agree that our group lessons represent the best value in tennis instruction. For more details and schedules, check our Lessons page on our website.
We are continuing our very popular Mixed Doubles drop-in program on Tues at 7pm and Thurs evenings at 7:30pm as well as Sunday mornings at 9am.
So enjoy our uncrowded courts. Please remember that Lessons and programs take priority, so please check court availability on the club calendar on our home page to avoid disappointment.
